film dryer

Wall Mounted Film Dryer

The wall mounted film dryer occupies a small space in the darkroom and will accept up to 28 rolls of full length 36 exposure films.

Air is drawn in at the top of dryer through a Merecel filter. The air is then heated to the correct thermostatically controlled temperature and exhausted at the dryer base. The maximum dryer air temperature is 40C which avoids overheating the darkroom during summer months.

film through fingers

NOTE : It is a good practice to ‘chamois off’ the backs of films (never the emulsion side) before hanging in a dryer.

  1. Place the processed film in a Foto Flo solution.
  2. Gently lift the film up from the Foto Flo tray pulling it through your fingers in a scissors motion (never do this with film tongs!).
  3. Attach one end of film to a wall mounted film clip and slowly run a damp chamois down the back of the film.
  4. Hang the film(s) in the drying cabinet. They will dry in about 10 minutes and be so clean they’ll look polished.
film and chamois

As you’ve probably discovered, with some water supplies it’s almost impossible to avoid water marks on the film back. So try the chamois, it’s perfect!
